Charter School to make presentation to School Board

A new Charter School will make a presentation to the White Pine County School Board on Tuesday, March 20th at 6:30 in the School Board Meeting Room.

The Learning Bridge Charter School is scheduled to open in the next school year as a K-5 School with expansion to a K-8 School by the 2015-2016 school year.

Though many conservative groups including the Nevada Policy Research Institute tout Charter Schools as the answer to failing schools, a number of Charter Schools including the Las Vegas Charter School for the Deaf face the same problem the public schools do; finding enough funding to keep the doors open.

Improved academic performance in the schools is touted by supporters yet 25 percent of Nevada’s Charter Schools failed to meet Average Yearly Progress goals under No Child Left Behind according to NPRI’s Patrick Gibbons in a Nevada Business Journal OpEd, though that is marginally better than Public School performance at 28%.

The School Board meeting agenda follows the break.
